ObamaCare is a tax

The Supreme Court decided today (5-4) that ObamaCare is a tax. The Federal government has the right to tax its citizens, according to the Constitution. Therefore, ObamaCare is constitutional.

There you have it. A new tax and a whopping big one with extremely far-reaching and long-term consequences.

If you don’t know what all the ramifications are going to be, take a peek at the well-researched and organized document published by Alliance Defense Fund (ADF). You can download your very own personal copy here.

Portions of this tax will go to abortions, and to make free contraceptives available to children without their parents’ knowledge. What does a good Christian have to say about this?

Jesus tells us what to say:

Matt 22:17–21  “Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. 20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” 21 They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

Why were the Pharisees all worked up about paying taxes to Rome? They believed it was a sin to support a ruler who claimed to be a god with their God-given money. In their mind, to pay taxes to any pagan nation was idolatrous worship. Rome was not exactly a God-fearing nation with God-fearing leaders and God-fearing laws. Did that concern Jesus at all? No, not really. In his ministry he was chiefly concerned with announcing that he was now the king of a new kingdom that was not of this world, but would reach out to consume all the nations.

Are you a citizen of that kingdom? Don’t worry too much about what the US does with money that the US printed. It’s just one nation that is here today, gone tomorrow. Make sure you are a citizen of the Eternal Kingdom. The ruler is good, righteous, true, and just. But he wants more than just your money.
